Military Assistance

Emergency Communication

The Highlands Chapter Red Cross helps military members and their families-active duty, National Guard, and Reserves-stationed all over the world contact each other during an emergency or other important events. These communications are delivered around the clock, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Should a family member send a message requesting that a service member immediately return home during an emergency, please note: It is the service members commanding officer who makes the final decision about granting emergency leave.

To reach a Red Cross staff person who can help you contact a service member, call (910) 867-8151. After business hours, call the same number and select option "2" on the recording. Emergency Financial Assistance

The Red Cross works with the military aid societies to provide financial assistance for emergency travel that requires the presence of the service member or his or her family, burial of a loved one, or with assistance that cannot wait until the next business day (food, temporary lodging, urgent medical needs, or the minimum amount required to avoid eviction, utility shut off, etc.)

Deployment Support

The Red Cross also provides numerous support services for families of deployed service members.

Red Cross armed Armed Forces Emergency Services personnel serve in nearly 1,000 chapters in the United States, on 109 military installations around the world and alongside our troops in Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Kosovo, and Afghanistan.
