AMERICAN RED CROSS OPENS SHELTERS
FOR THOSE AFFECTED BY TORNADOES
FAYETTEVILLE, NC April 17, 2011 – The American Red Cross has opened a shelters at the following locations to assist those affected by the tornadoes and severe storms today
Cumberland County
Spring Lake Middle School - 612 Spring Avenue., Spring Lake, NC 28390
Westover Recreation Center – 277 Bonanza Drive, Fayetteville, NC, 28303
Seventy-First High School – 6764 Raeford Road, Fayetteville, NC 28304 *Open now*
Harnett County
Triton High School -215 Maynard Lake Road, Erwin, NC 28339
Sampson County
Agri-Expo Center: 414 Warsaw Road Clinton, Nc 28328
Red Cross volunteers will provide warm meals and a shoulder to lean on for those with immediate, disaster-caused needs.
Anyone evacuating to a Red Cross shelter should bring essential items for each member of the family:
- Prescriptions and emergency medications
- Foods that meet unusual dietary requirements
- Identification to show residence is in affected area and important personal documents
- Extra clothing, pillows, blankets, hygiene supplies and other comfort items
- Supplies needed for children and infants, such as diapers, formula and toys
- Special items for family members who are elderly or disabled
- Note – Public health regulations do not permit pets in shelters; service animals are permitted.
